[CoolTerm-Betas] Warning if no save file

Hi,
I assume you have “Autostart on open” enabled under the capture options?
If you don’t turn on “append to auto capture file” then CoolTerm will always use the default file name, which will look something like this:
CoolTerm Capture (Settings File.stc) 2022-12-07 15-59-28-406.txt
This file name will include the name of the settings file as well as a timestamp (with milli seconds) of when exactly the capture was started. Unless you change any settings, CoolTerm will start a new capture file each time your load your settings and the auto capture is started.
You only need to specify a capture file name if you enable “append to auto capture file”. Otherwise it wouldn’t make sense to have a specific name.
However, if you enable “append to auto capture file”, then CoolTerm will use the name specified under “Auto Capture File Name”. But if you forget to specify one, there is no warning. Instead, CoolTerm will again use the default, which in this case is like this:
CoolTerm Capture (Settings File.stc).txt
Note that there is no timestamp. Since it’s set to append to the auto capture file, new data will be appended to the same file each time the settings are loaded and the auto capture is started.
I hope that makes sense. If you want separate files each time you load your setting file and start capture automatically, there is no point in setting a file name. CoolTerm will use the default capture file name format.
Some helpful tips:
If you have an active capture, then you can use the quick menu to quickly navigate to the location of the capture file:

Also, if you hover the mouse over the status line when it says “Capturing…”, it will open a ballon with the full capture path after a few seconds:

I hope this helps.
